Homeworkopoly

The two boards shown above I have created for my classroom. The first on was created with poster board, and the second one was created for the Promethean Board.

I started using Homeworkopoly during the 2008-2009 school year. I used Ms. Jensen's classroom website as a resource to developing my Homeworkopoly board. Please visit her classroom website for how she uses this incentive in her classroom.

We  play this game once a week. I play my game each Monday afternoon. I do this, because I know for a fact that all work from the previous week has been turned in on time. Students are allowed to play if and only if they have turned in ALL work in on time. The game is played the same way as the original game.

When I started making my board, I actually went to the original game board to see how it was set up. I then gave each "property" a name that had to do with school. School Lunch Box and Backpack Cards are modeled after Community Chest and Chance Cards. Instead of "Parking", I have "Extra Recess". One of the pockets at the top is labeled "Extra Recess". This is where the students put their fines. Any student who lands on the "Extra Recess" space, they win the money. The game board also has Detention. Students must pay $100 get out of Detention. Each time a student makes it around the board, they earn $200.

Students are able to buy the properties. Once a property has been purchased, any student who lands on that property owes the owner money. The students loved this part of the game. At the end of each nine weeks, students have to return the property cards, and we start the game over.

During the 2010-2011 school year, we will be playing Homeworkopoly on the Promethean Board. Click here to download the ActivInspire Flipchart.
