Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader is a program designed
to test students after they have read a book. Almost all of the books
in the school library and the classroom library can be found on
Accelerated Reader. I highly encourage all of my students to take an
Accelerated Reader test after each book they read, but I do not
require that every book a student reads has to be an Accelerated
Reader book as I do not believe that students should solely be reading
a book just to take a test, but they should be reading a book for the
love of reading. That being said, Accelerated Reader is a great
program for students to take to test their knowledge of a book they
are reading.

Every student
will be deciding on a point goal for each month. The class will also be
working on a class goal. When a student reaches his/her goal they will
be able to earn Frog Bucks in class. If the class reaches its goal,
then the entire class will receive a special surprise (pizza party,
ice cream party, movie & popcorn, etc.) Accelerated Reader is an
important part of my classroom as it encourages all the students to read
books that they enjoy reading.

Our
classroom theme this year is "Race Into Reading." We will also be
keeping track of our classroom results on a line graph and a bar
graph. The class will be working towards 50 scores of 80%
comprehension or better. Once we reach 50, we will have a classroom
treat. The students then will work on reaching 100 scores of 80% or
higher.

My
classroom has had remarkable success with Reading Counts! (the program
we used prior to AR) and Accelerated Reader for the past three years.
The school's top reader has come from my classroom. The top reader is
the reader who has the most points in the entire school. Listed below
are Landis' top readers:
2006-2007 Lari (Reading Counts)
2007-2008 Bethany
2008-2009 Hayley 260.9 pts
